The Oklahoma Legislature is the supreme legislative body of the state. It is a bicameral house. The upper house is called the Senate, and the lower house is the House of Representatives.
The upper house known as the Senate consists of 48 members. They serve for four years. The Senate members serve a staggered term. Only half of the Senate Districts have elections in the election year. Gubernatorial appointments are subject to the Senate’s advice and consent.
The House of Representatives consists of 101 members. These members serve for two years. They are elected from single member districts of equal population. A bill for raising revenue originates from the House of Representatives and needs the consent of the Governor.
