The Constitution of Rhode Island was adopted by Constitutional Convention on November 5, 1842. It was ratified by vote of the People on November 23, 1842. It became effective on May 2, 1843. The text of the 1663 charter language was mostly adopted in the 1843 version. The Rhode Island Constitution consists of 15 Articles.
The two paths by which the Rhode Island Constitution can be changed are:
- the legislatively-referred constitutional amendment under Section 1 of Article 14, and
- the constitutional convention under Section 2 of Article 14.
