North Carolina Constitution

The current Constitution of the State of North Carolina was adopted  by Constitutional Convention of 1969.  It was ratified by vote of the People on November 3, 1970.  It became effective on July 1, 1971.  The Constitution has 14 articles.

According to Section 4 of Article XIII, there are two paths to amending the North Carolina Constitution :

  • the legislatively-referred constitutional amendment, and
  • a constitutional convention.
