To date, forty-three people have been sworn into the office of the President of the United States of America. But there have been forty four Presidencies so far. Grover Cleveland served two non consecutive terms (1885-1889 and 1893-1897) and is therefore the twenty second and the twenty fourth President. George Washington is the first President of the United States. Franklin D. Roosevelt spent the longest time in office which was over 12 years (1933-1945.) He is the only President to serve more than two terms. The current President, Barack Obama assumed the office on January 20, 2009.
